His Presence felt in unexpected places and times
Glimpses Of God
Students from Charleston Southern University (May 17th, 2025)

Students from Charleston Southern University came in May and created these incredible benches!

The benches are being used to share the Gospel during children’s gatherings that happen every Saturday.

Before delivering these benches, we had only been in this specific community once before.

The community is on the other side of Santiago and is essentially in the middle of a jungle-like field. It’s very dense with trees, bushes and grass. It’s about .5 miles from the main road.

As we were delivering the benches, you could see the excitement fill the eyes of those in the community, especially the children. The bright colors brought a stark contrast to what was around them. You can see the brightness truly fill their souls.

While the kids were playing with the benches, I stepped away to reconnect with one of my friends in the community, Wes-Guerline. The first time we met, she taught me a Christian song in creole and she wrote it in my Bible! Some of you may know it in English!

Creole Version

Li LaBib Ou Priye Chak Jou
Priye Chak Jou
Priye Chak Jou
Li LaBib Ou Priye Chak Jou e ou va grandi
E ou va grandi
E ou va grandi
Li LaBib Ou Priye Chak Jou e ou va grandi

English Version

Read your Bible and pray everyday
Pray everyday
Pray everyday
Read your Bible and pray everyday and you will grow, grow, grow
You will grow, grow, grow
You will grow, grow, grow
Read your Bible and pray everyday and you will grow, grow, grow

After praying with her and singing the song again, I was walking back to the group and the Lord stopped me in my tracks.

I saw this rusted cross on the gate.

I smiled immediately, looked up and said “thank you Jesus”.

These moments with Him are so special to me.

To me, it was Him saying “I’m here. I’m with you. I’m walking next to you at all times.”

It also reminded me that even in these communities, where hope is seemingly lost or it’s so hard to feel His presence, He is right there. He is always there.

I was so thankful for this moment with Him.
